Darłowo

Darłowo, known in German as Rügenwalde, is a town in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, northwestern Poland. Its rich history, dating back to medieval times, is marked by significant events, notable figures, and important landmarks.

In the 18th century, as a result of the Treaty of Westphalia, the town became part of Brandenburg-Prussia. Later, it was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia and subsequently the German Empire in the 19th century.

20th Century and World War II

The 20th century brought significant changes to Darłowo. Following World War I, the Treaty of Versailles did not affect its status, and it remained part of Germany. However, during World War II, the town was heavily damaged. After the war, in 1945, as a result of the Potsdam Conference, Darłowo was transferred to Poland. The German population was expelled, and Polish settlers moved into the area.

Post-War Period and Present Day

In the post-war period, Darłowo was rebuilt and developed as a resort town, taking advantage of its beautiful beaches and historical attractions. The town has become a popular tourist destination, known for its picturesque old town and seaside location.
